Esteemed Editor: I've been the parent of a blended family for about a year now — my 13-year-old and my partner's 14 and 16-year-old kids. At the 10,000-foot view it's going really well but I am still frustrated by how hard it is to connect with my older "bonus daughter" (the "step" has been removed from the modern family lexicon) even though the two of us have so much in common.
