This week’s newsletter is about doing everything: specifically moving an entire family while very pregnant.
The move was terrible, and it’s already hard to write about, because you can’t write while you’re doing something so hectic, and you can’t remember afterwards. Everyone agrees that moving is awful, but it still feels like it’s particularly awful only for me. It started a month ago, with packing. First books and summer clothes, then toys, then plates and cups, then linens and coats. As soon as the kitchen was in, I spent my days driving kitchen things over to the house and figuring out where they should go. I had to do it stealthily because here's a catch-22: I’m too pregnant for Gabe to let me lift anything, but Gabe doesn’t see the urgency and refuses to help. I don’t disagree in principle that boxes can all be brought over by the movers on moving day, and that unpacking can happen at ones leisure, but I think that (1) our circumstances are relatively urgent, with Jamie needing stability and stuff and a baby about to come (2) we have no leisure for unpacking at our leisure. 3, I was the only one packing and assumed I’d be the only one unpacking, too.
